What Dep Station is — and isn't

A performance-readiness system, not a file drawer.

Dep Station is not primarily cloud storage, notation software, generic project management or a chat application. It is a performance-readiness system.

Dep Station structures the material around the people who have to perform it. Administrators organise productions, songs, roles, chairs, parts and supporting media. Musicians see the material relevant to them, add private notes and track their own preparation.

How it works

Four stages, from production to performance.

  1. 1

    Create the production

Set up a clear home for the show, ensemble, set, session or recurring programme.

  2. 2

    Add repertoire and materials

Structure the music by song, number, work or movement, and attach charts, tracks, lyrics and notes.

  3. 3

    Assign roles and parts

Connect chairs, parts and role-specific material to the right musicians.

  4. 4

    Prepare and track readiness

Musicians work through their material and update their own preparation.

A note on the name

What "dep" means

In British professional music, a “dep” is a deputy musician who steps into an existing chair or role. Dep Station began with the problem of helping replacement musicians become performance-ready quickly, but the platform supports preparation across the full ensemble.

In North America, the equivalent role is often called a “sub.”

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Dep Station only for deputy musicians?

No. Dep Station began with the problem of helping replacement musicians become performance-ready quickly, but the platform is built to support preparation across a full ensemble, cast or team — not only the musicians stepping into an existing chair.

Is Dep Station a file-storage service?

No. Dep Station structures material around the people who have to perform it, and around each musician's readiness, rather than functioning as general-purpose cloud storage.

Can musicians keep personal notes?

Yes. Musicians can maintain their own private notes and supporting material alongside the material an administrator has provided.

Who can organise a project?

A musical director, administrator or other nominated organiser sets up the production, adds repertoire and assigns roles, chairs and parts.

What kinds of organisations can use it?

Theatre productions, orchestras, ensembles, bands, session teams, cruise entertainment, worship and community groups, schools, academies, studios and independent musicians.

Does it replace notation software?

No. Dep Station organises and distributes the material a musician needs — including charts produced elsewhere — rather than replacing notation or engraving software.
